Yesterday the Baltimore Orioles outrighted utility man Steve Pearce to AAA-Norfolk, which opened a spot on the 40-man roster. Of course as soon as the move was announced, I began being asked if this meant the Orioles are about to sign or trade for someone, and the answer is, I am not sure.

This could be a situation where the Orioles are about to acquire a player that will be placed on the 40-man roster, perhaps resigning Joe Saunders or to everyone's surprise maybe even an Adam LaRoche signing….haha the latter is very doubtful, but the O's could be preparing for a signing of some sort. It is also possible that perhaps they are intending to add one of their recently signed free agents to the 40-man roster. It is really anyone's guess, as the Orioles have been somewhat unpredictable this offseason, other than not signing a marquee free agent, that was predictable.

With the Christmas Holiday right around the corner, it is likely that we will not know the purpose of this move till later next week, but it will be interesting to see if it will be a move worth writing about.
