The 2012 season was a memorable one for the Baltimore Orioles and their fans as the Orioles ended their 14 consecutive losing seasons streak and made their first postseason since 1997. Today, the 2013 baseball season officially begins as pitchers and catchers officially report to Spring Training today.
Heading into 2013, Baltimore is facing something they haven't in quite some time, expectations. Baltimore went 93-69 last season and took one of the two Wild Card spots, beat the Texas Rangers in the first ever American League Wild Card game, and lost in five games in the ALDS to the hated New York Yankees. Manager Buck Showalter has done a phenomenal job since he took over in August of 2010, and Charm City has really rallied around him, plus now we know he will be the Orioles manager through the 2018 season with his contract extension this offseason.
So with expectations abound, and very minimal additions this offseason and a much improved AL East, the 2012 team that went 16-2 in extra inning games and 29-9 in one run games will have to find a way to not only replicate their success, but improve on it in 2013. Later today we will begin a four part Spring Training preview series where we will take a look at the outfield, infield, pitchers, and catchers/role players, but for now we just wanted to share the excitement with Orioles fans in that baseball is finally here!
