The Baltimore Orioles split into four teams yesterday to play two separate intrasquad games to give both hitters and pitchers their first taste of live baseball in 2013. Some players were impressive and others were up to their normal tricks.

Both intrasquad games were three innings a piece with a total of 12 pitchers throwing an inning a piece or until they reached their pitch limit. We will first examine how the pitchers fared, and perhaps the pitcher that will be the most watched because of how his contract was delayed due to his physical results will be Jair Jurrjens. He faced four hitters (Teagarden, G Davis, Casilla and Flaherty) and recorded just one out. Taylor Teagarden hit a leadoff double, minor leaguer Glynn Davis struck out looking, Alexi Casilla walked and Ryan Flaherty hit a single to load the bases for Lew Ford, but the inning was halted because Jurrjens had reached his pitch limit. Not the start Jurrjens or the Orioles were hoping to see out of him.

Jake Arrieta, Brian Matusz and Steve Johnson were the most impressive yesterday on the bump as neither of them gave up a hit. Arrieta retired Casilla, Flaherty and Ford without allowing a ball out of the infield. Matusz went 1-2-3 as well in his inning of work and Johnson pitched so effectively that he was allowed to record four outs in order to increase his pitch count.

On the flip side, some hitters looked good, including Brian Roberts who will be watched every time he is on the field. Roberts looked solid at the plate and even recorded an RBI single off of Zach Britton. Chris Davis showed he hadn't lost any power this offseason drilling an opposite field home run off of Tommy Hunter.

Nolan Reimold was held out of the intrasquad games yesterday and will be held out of today's intrasquad game as well just as a precaution as manager Buck Showalter wants to take it slow with him.

The Orioles will be intrasquading again today, playing one six inning game and as soon as the lineups are out, we will provide all our readers with them via our Twitter account @Orioles_101.
